Match Report

The Knockers first match of the season was the annual trip to Sissnghurst. A fairly normal Knockers side was in evidence and on winning the toss Darry decided to field. Paul Seldon and C Sp-Allen opened with some good bowling but failed ot make any breakthroughs. The only incidence in fact was Paul hittnig thier opener smack on the top of the foot. In agony he limped off the field only to be told by Corin that it was probably his metatarsal!

The returning G Miller took over with the ball and managed to take a wicket bowling their no 3 around his legs with some good bowling. Some accurate bowling by L Sp-Allen failed to make any inroads in to their line up and their opener cruised to 111no and their no4 reached his 50. A Darry bowled some overs with a few half chances as did G Howe, unable to maintain his infamous strike rate! Sissinghurst reached 210 when a run out brought about their declaration.

Following tea it was time for the Knockers' reply. The first over saw 2 6s, 2 fours and a 2 from C Sp-Allen to get the Knockers in the mood for batting. Shortly afterwards however L Sp-Allen was out playing a very silly shot. G Miller then came in and showed how he had been spending his time in Australia - not thinking about cricket as he blazed the ball around the park until in his own words he "started thinking about what he was doing" and then failed to score another run and was caught for 38. C Sp-Allen was also caught playing a silly shot before this for 28. He was replaced by A Sp-Allen who played a sensible innings managing a well made 37 before being caught off a dubiously non no-ball (Guthrie was umpire at the time!). Some further indifferent batting meant Knockers wickets fell fairly rapidly, the only added resistance coming from P Styles who hit a good 25no and S Trounce who blazed the ball to all parts of the ground for a solid 7 runs. With two balls to go Steve was out to leave A Darry to block the last balls to prevent a Knockers loss.

A fairly lacklustre start to the season and one which should be improved on over the coming weeks.
