Narrow win for Knockers
The Knockers score of 172 looked enough for a comfortable victory when they played against Tonbridge on Sunday, but some quick scoring by the opposition openers led to a close finish with the visitors winning by the narrow margin of 14 runs.
The Knockers openers, Mike Woodman and Pete Smith gave their team a solid start scoring 61 runs for the first wicket. Woodman was in a particularly belligerent mood hammering any loose ball on the dry pitch. He was eventually out for 38, scoring seven fours in his 45 minute innings.
Pete Smith, Tony Martin and Richard Botting continued the good scoring rate, while the tail failed to give much support, resulting in an all-out score of 172.
The Tonbridge openers of Hamilton and Gower were quickly off the mark. It took the slower bowling of Mike Martin and Mike Woodman, who took seven wickets between them, to turn the tables in Knockers favour.
Wickets began to fall at regular intervals and eventually Tonbridge were all out, still with five of their last 20 overs to go.
