Knockers miss their chances
Knockers traveled to Smarden for the first time on Sunday and elected to bat on a wicket which proved to be variable in bounce.
The early batsmen failed to many any impression and the score moved to 17-4 until Richard Stone, after being dropped when he put up an easy chance, went on to make 84 during which he hit five sixes. Skipper Peter Smith contributed a useful 43 taking the score to 168-8 dec at tea.
Graham Stiles took the first five Smarden wickets for 19 before the home side had 50 on the board and may have had more if a couple of chances had been taken. These misses proved costly as Kilford went on to make 50 before being bowled by Trounce and Miles was 23 no at the close.
Although several bowlers were given a chance none could make the necessary breakthrough and the home side survived for a draw with 128-7.
