Knockers win by 19 runs
Knockers won an exciting game at Weald on Sunday by 19 runs in a match dominated by the bowlers.
The visitors won the toss and chose to bat and there were hopes of a big total from a strong batting line-up but wickets soon fell to the accurate bowling of Somerville (2 for 9) and Jennings (3 for 35). The first four wickets fell for 22 and the was no real recovery with only 49 from Andrew Sims - the only batsman to make double figures - holding the innings together. Knockers finally struggled to 92 all out, Saunders carrying on the good work of the opening bowlers with 4 for 26.
The total, however, proved too much for Weald against some fine bowling and fielding. Peter Ellison kept the home side pinned down, taking 4 for 16 in 15 overs, then Tony Martin took over with 3 for 7. Graham Stiles shone on the field, contributing to a run out and, with the home side needing 20 to win from the last two wickets, took a brilliant full-length diving catch at mid-off.
