Strong side fail to beat rivals
Despite fielding a strong side, Knockers still did not manage to beat their old rivals Staplehurst on Sunday. The home side asked Knockers to bat on a track which was excellent although slightly green.
After a shaky start, John Hornsby found his form and took full advantage of the fast outfield. His timing and placing enabled him to reach 105 before he was bowled. Andrew Sims gave good support with 46, but Staplehurst were relieved to take the last six wickets for 25 and restrict the total to 216 all out.
Rob Herkes bowled opener Wibberley for 24, but wickets were hard to come by. Change bowler Peter Ellison (4-55) removed Penny (37) and Robbins (41) but at 137-3 the home side were well in the hunt. However the slow left-arm of Woodman (3-17) had Rogers caught at slip.
Ellison and Woodman took further wickets, but with the light fading Staplehurst called off the chase with 8 wickets down. Pullen (44no) survived one crucial chance but was still there when the score reached 183 for 8 at the close.
