Knockers
144-6
Incompatibles
35-10
Sevenoaks News, July 9th 1980.
An opening stand of 96 between John Hornsby and Michael Dickenson set Knockers up for a good score on Sunday when they entertained Incompatibles.
Hornsby was eventually caught on 73 and Dickenson went on to make a solid 35. The scores were all the more credible because of an extremely long outfield. Wickets fell as the home side tried to accelerate and the total had reached 144 for 6 when rain forced an extended tea interval and a declaration.
The rain appeared to liven the wicket and the first ball from Rob Herkes flew off the bat handle to Hornsby at third slip. Graham Stiles took a wicket in his first over and Herkes bowled two more as the Incompatibles slumped to 4-4.
There was another interruption for rain, but as the players took to the field again Stiles took a further two wickets and Herkes induced a surprise slip catch to Sims. The introduction of Botting resulted in another wicket and the last player was run out when the backing up fielder Martin still had time to receive a shy at one end and throw down the stumps at the other.
The visitors were all our for 35. Guest player Herkes took 5-12 and Stiles 3-13.
