The game got under way with Knockers fielding on a pleasant afternnon where the Sun was sometimes shining. L Spencer-Allen(8-1-15) and Thomas(4-2-7) opened the bowling with an attacking spell leaving Weald reeling at 11-3 with Thomas taking 2 and Spencer-Allen 1. Jariwalla had come on and bowled one over when fielding at fine leg he fumbled a ball which he had to turn around for and when he had to turn round again to throw the ball managed to dislocate his knee putting him out of action for the rest of the game. Darry was on the scene to come on in his place and with agreement from their captain just took his place. Needham bowled as a newcomer to the side from University putting in a sound first performance for Knockers blowing away the cob webs after many years of no cricket. Styles took over from Jariwallas end bowling and failed to make an impact. C Spencer-Allen joined the attack and looked like getting a wicket but the growing partnership between their no.3 and 5 blossomed and eventually reached 100. Rumary, Darry and Lee-Kemp also bowled with their own recognisable styles, Darry the only one making a breakthrough(5-1-15). Their innings ended at 141-4 dec.
The Knockers reply started hesitantly again with Styles falling for 0 with the score on 5. Thomas was brought to the crease in embarrasing fashion with his beloved rugby socks on. They could not lift him to the new heights he was promoted to and after smashing a four he succumbed to the temptation of the slog and was bowled for 4. Boreham and S Seldon had a brief stay at the crease putting on a 23 partnership before Boreham received a seemingly unplayable delivery to be bowled for 12. L Spencer-Allen was brought to the crease and him and Seldon added a further 16 before Seldon edged to gulley in a failry non descript manner. Spencer-Allen was out later having played on off a short ball for the second time this season. Guy Howe proved gutsy as ever keeping in line with a seaming ball, risking his vital organs to keep his wicket before he was dubiously given out LBW again for 8. C.Spencer-Allen took to the crease and with even his first ball the bowler was despatched to the cover boundary with consummate ease. He went on to make 47 before being caught as the last wicket having made batting look very easy even though it was his first bat for 8 months. He was suported all be it briefly by Needham who was bowled off a straight one which he missed through a lack of practice, Lee-Kemp who made 2 before being bowled, Rumary who managed a single despite a serious lack of sleep the night before and Darry who remained not out at the end having added 40 with C Spencer-Allen for the last wicket. A good last ditch attempt for the Knockers at the last wicket but sadly not good enough to prevent another loss.
