Match Report

Batting first on a very overcast day Knockers received 4 early setbacks losing S Seldon for 1(to his brother), P Styles, C Spencer-Allen and Petters. C Irwin entered the arena and after surviving the first few overs went on to score his maiden Knockers 50 and nearly to his century. Boreham assisted until 20 when he succumbed to Rumary's bowling(for the other team) and was caught. This brought Spencer-Allen to the crease who assisted Irwin until the close of the innings. Irwin showed that a good eye could overcome poor fitness hitting almost everything for runs and then almost dying because of it. He went on to make 95NO and Sp-Allen 49NO when a well crafted declaration took place. This was certainly worth a Jug after the game from skipper of the day Trounce. This 6th wicket partnership of 101 unbroken takes its place as the highest in the history of the Knockers. The final score ended at 179-5.

The amazing display of keenness from the Knockers ranks produced 14 players for the day and as Otford were short by 3 enabled an 11 a-side to be played with Darry, P Seldon and Rumary all taking the opposition ranks for the day. This produced some interesting cricketing moments especially in some of the on-the-field talk between sides.

Otford went to bat with some venom with L Sp-Allen unable to make inroads in his overs(5-0-11), whilst G Miller returned only 1 wicket - that of P Seldon - in his 7 overs(7-1-20). Coming on first change C Sp-Allen also had success with 1 wicket(6-1-21) but it was left to the spin twins, Styles and Trounce, to relieve the pressure and dismiss the opposition for 78 taking 4 and 3 wickets respectively. Styles(8-4-16), Trounce(5-3-8). Many of these wickets had G Howe to thank for with his stand-in keeping being of a high standard taking 5 dismissals in the match.
