Match Report
This could have been horrible. Several Knockers a few pints to the good, no Freddie and Calver and the Duke opening the bowling. At one stage we wondered how many over 200 we might be asked to chase down in 20 overs, in the end we got to within twenty runs thanks to an excellent opening partnership and their two players they loaned to us.
Calver opened. First ball a testing wide. The Tiddington opener incensed, spent the next seven overs pasting us around the park to reach his 50 and decided to retire. The Duke should have had him to be fair but a dropped catch at mid-on added to the slightly comedic start to our cricketing efforts.
It took two Tiddington players to make the breakthrough as Leon got an edge to Jacob and were surrounded by slightly embarrassed Knockers. Still, a wicket is a wicket and when we quickly followed it up with Kuts’ classy caught and bowled, a run out and Ed nicking another, the run rate dropped. It picked up again to get them to 165 but it was by no means as bad as it could have been.
TJ and Jacob then set a platform with a 50 partnership. Hard running took in very risky singles but Jacob was in his element until he top-edged. Will Bull kept up the pressure but after he was caught and TJ was run out a Knockers collapse came about with Lynden, Ed and Lando falling in quick succession.
Kuts and Leon briefly steadied the ship but both were back in the hutch to be quickly followed by Gerald as the Duke and Calver played out the final few balls with the latter’s boundary bring us to twenty shy of their total.
