Match Report

A fairly comfortable win at Bidborough saw Anton Kinsler O'Sullivan take his first ever five-fer. With Seb Horner taking four wickets, ball dominated bat as a mainly youthful home team then struggled to contain a strong Knockers batting line, with Tom Cobb leading the way and Cookie's thunderous cameo bringing it home.

Captain Spencer-Allen lost the toss and we were sent out to field in the cloying heat that alludes to an impending thunderstorm. Debutant, Joe Shamash opened and his pace went through the Bidborough openers but without the edges his efforts merited. Anton could do no wrong at the other end, ending with enviable figures of 9-4-15-5.

Anton's first was slapped to Ed Springett's safe hands at square, he then had the next man playing around a jagged line before combining with Springett again as he induced a top edge. Joe gave way to Finn but that end continued to produce little reward for good bowling.

Anton bowled through, getting a snick to Lynden's gloves and then in his last over, he removed the off stump. His last four overs bagged four wickets for as many runs in a superb display of control and confidence.

Ed found his radar after a few overs and removed their left-hander with a lovely ball that moved from middle to the top of off. But it was to Horner that the rest of the glory fell. He bowled the remaining opener, Beasley, who'd hit a much needed 60 just as he'd found a partner in Ponsford, who would end unbeaten. Seb bowled a great line and benefited from another Springett catch and a lighting grab from Snellers at first slip after the ball looped up past Lynden. Lando had been trundling in from the other end in the mean time before Seb bagged his fourth, a catch at short stop, as Bidborough finished on 135.

Tea was good, Victoria sponge and scones complimented the sandwiches and teas while Cobb and Snellers readied themselves to open. Freddie Young was in attendance, alas unable to take the absent Guido's place due to injury.

Snellers looked comfortable, if not in great nick before a mistimed drive proved a simple catch. Lando joined Cobb and played some tasty drives but it was Tom that took the game away as the pair put on seventy for the second wicket.

Cobb's cover shots were particularly enjoyable, almost sending one through the pavilion doors as he continued to choose his shots well. He lost Lando to a top edge, nearly got run out by Lynden and suddenly spooned a half-tracker to mid wicket. The damage had been done however.

Cookie was in great form, knowing when to block and when to smash. He hit 17 off the penultimate over as Bidborough brought on a looping slow bowler, who very nearly got a cheer from the Knocker's dressing room as he just let go of a chance to claim Lynden caught and bowled. Cookie gobbled up the rest of the offerings and we were off to the pub early with a good first win of 2017 under our belts.
