Match Report
A fine win against a decent Blagdon Hill side at their pretty Blackdown Hills ground. Paul Seldon's ton and partnership with Ed Springett's fifty set up a defendable total with Charles Doubleday-Potts and Freddie Young spinning Knockers on to victory.
Captain Ed Marsh had a tough choice of wet track vs sore heads after winning the toss. He chose the latter and the world was somehow a happier place as the Seldon brothers opened the batting for Knockers once more. Stu was clapped on fifteen as he became the club's all-time top scorer as the pair put on fifty for the first wicket. Snellers had blasted twenty off the first over and looked unruffled as a succession of batsmen came and went following Stu getting caught on 23.
Sachin was clearly still getting over the previous evening, Duke got an eleven ball duck and John Mitchell's cameo took in slapping the ball back over the bowler's head for four. Ed Marsh wasn't best pleased letting one through but it brought Ed Springett to the crease and the second highest sixth wicket partnership with it.
Snellers and Springett put on 98 with the latter losing three balls with straight sixes. Snellers' timing was exquisite, moving the ball around the ground and chuntering at Ed for an ill judged single as they sprinted past each other. Paul would then overtake his brother as leading Knockers batsman as his century brought a standing ovation. They were eventually both bowled and Calver, Rory and Hector brought a lighter touch to events to finish on 229-8.
More a banquet than a tea was snapped up with cider on tap as a tour team photo took in a surprise guest.
Ed Marsh opened opposite Rory and the pair pinned down the Blagdon Hill openers. Calver gave Freddie's keeping a test and he passed to make the breakthrough. Agnew got one through the gate and wickets began to fall at a comfortable pace for the Knockers.
Sachin couldn't have looked less pleased as a filthy ball wound up in Springett's hands after Ed had taken a smart caught and bowled himself. Rory left the field to drink a few more ciders which prepared him well for numerous misfields.
Duke and Freddie then vied to be the tour's top spinner and for the second year in a row it was Charles who took the crown. His deceptively straight bowling proved the downfall of three Blagdon batsmen as Calver's safe hands topped off an LBW decision and a set of split stumps thanks to Ed Marsh. Freddie was in fine form and got an LBW and bowled his man before poleaxing Ed Marsh, who'd taken the gloves, with a spitting delivery. Marsh sat out the rest of the game with a pack of frozen corgettes pressed to his forehead before spending the evening at Taunton hospital.
Stu Seldon then rounded matters up as Springett once again influenced proceedings with a final catch. Great hosts, a great win and a great tour.
