A third win in a row came in a jaunty game at Pembury, a new fixture on the Knockers' card. Simon Rawson and Rory Goodson excelled with the ball with Finn dynamic in the field while a Paul Seldon and Tom Cobb century partnership dominated the run chase.
With seven Knockers present, captain Scott Landers duly lost the toss standing by a wicket where Snellers had just assessed it (in front of their skipper) as 'I'm not bloody batting on that.' The Pembury captain was less concerned and opted to bat as a thirty over format was chosen to try and beat the looming dark clouds.
Anton Kinsler O'Sullivan opened in the light rain with Rory at the other end. The pair took eight overs to make their way through the home side's top order. Rory bagged two in a mean and lean spell, one off the shoulder of the bat, the second a gentle edge, both to Snellers with the gloves. Anton's new found ability to levitate brought about a fine caught and bowled with a stretching effort and he drew a false-shot to clip the bails for his second.
Finn Kinsler O'Sullivan and Simon Rawson carried on the pressure. Finn's skill at beating the bat continues as he troubled Pembury's danger man, Webster. Simon read the situation well and was rewarded for wicket to wicket bowling with another Seldon catch, Finn plucking one out of the air to end Webster's - who had top scored with 32 - efforts and his third going through the gate.
Neil Dave was then unfortunate to have Lando on the end of a mistimed shot while Duke split the stumps in a fine spell at the opposite end. JT and Cobb continued the tight bowling with JT's figures ruined by another Landoism but Finn took a decent running catch despite a bloodied hand to help him out. Cobby kept the impending chase down with some miserly bowling at the other end. The ten men were set 129 to win on a wicket that was gradually settling down as the clouds thinned.
A seriously good array of sandwiches and cakes meant Lando enjoyed at least something that afternoon. He was soon back in the hutch bringing together Tom and Paul. They raced on with Snellers striking towering sixes seemingly at will and Cobb working the field in an unhurried display. The hundred partnership came with them both collecting their fifties in quick succession.
Cobb pulled to square and Snellers gloved to the keeper soon after allowing JT, who had to ask the umpire to reassess his signal following a six, and Simon to bring home the win with the latter completing the job with a boundary.
A dressing room chat about A Flock of Seagulls brought about Simon's brave admission that he once* had the nickname 'Debbie' in the eighties due a fine head of hair. Tom Cobb was presented with a club cap and he can sit back and savour a fine contribution to mark the occasion. The lads head into tour week in good form.
