Knockers
140-7
After a late fixture change, a decent Knockers side assembled together to face off against the very competent Penhurst side. The Knockers side was filled with everything, from the youth of the O’Sullivan brothers, to the aged glory of Guy Howe and Gerald McBrearty. It was to be a spectacle one could not possibly turn a blind eye to.
Skipper Ollie Marsh won the toss and confidently sent Penhurst to the crease. Some fine early bowling from Anton O’Sullivan and the Skipper himself limited them to a ludicrously low total after ten overs. However with just one wicket down, the captain turned up the pressure cooker, bringing on debutant Ben Moffatt and ‘The Duke’ (still half on the plane from the US). A rollercoaster ensued with four wickets coming from the spell for several runs. A technical master class then followed from Guy Howe, accompanied by the ‘bouncing’ Gerald, and some fine pace from Louis Moen. All of which brought wickets. Even Tom Cobb got in on the wickets… and on the match fees. More on that later.
The stellar bowling attack, along side some great fielding from ‘Duke’ and company, limited Penhurst to 139 all out.
The Knockers assembled for a much needed Tea break. As they sat together in the beating sun, Mr Marsh was hard at work planning the attack of the reachable target.
Finn O’Sullivan and James Thompson opened the batting, each making a slight indent into the target. However, Cobb, Howe and Doubleday all came and went quickly. Arguably Guy’s wicket could even become the worst LBW decision since the Tom Watts incident of 2014. Skipper Marsh and the always steady Eddy Springett set up camp in the middle, leading Knockers over the finish line with overs to spare.
Overall the day would fall in line with the already successful season the Knockers are having. However, would it be a Knockers match without any controversy? This week the match fees went walk about after the match. So if anyone saw where it went, there is a hundred pound reward. I’m sure that someone might be interested in the cash prize……
