Match Report
After an exciting start to the season, a Knockers side filled with a plethora of debutants took on a very strong Linton Park XI.
Captain Ollie Marsh won the toss (again) and (surprisingly) sent the Knockers in to bat. Ted Marsh and James Wade opened the batting and struggled for runs against a impressive bowling line up. As the runs began to pick up, Ted was clean bowled and Captain Fantastic (Ollie) was back in the pavilion before making an impression. The first change bowlers were as impressive as the openers, as the middle order continued the battle at the crease. Seldon, Bowen and Wade all fell quickly, with Paul Seldon’s dismissal being quite a bizarre moment. In an interview moments later, Paul described it as “well a bit (profanity)”. Debutants McCullen and Ratcliffe salvaged the innings hitting 22 and 18 respectively, with some lovely boundaries amongst the runs. A late charge from Christian Kutner, Duke and Matt watts helped leave knockers on a measly 134 all out.
Match tea was enough to fill the team with hope. Ollie Marsh sparked up after something in his sandwich made him think that sending Duke to open the bowling was a good idea. It wasn’t.
However Matt Watts bowled a lovely spell at the other end, accompanied by accurate bowling from the Marsh Brothers. Wickets fell, runs were scored and it wasn’t too long until the game was tied. Linton Park had 4 wickets and plenty of overs to get that final run. Ted Marsh took two wickets in two balls to turn the finale into quite a nail biter. However the hat trick ball went a miss and the run was soon got.
Whilst it was another loss for Knockers, there are some real positives to show for, highlighting what could be a successful season ahead. Bring on Ightam.
