Knockers
204-5
Northdowns
190-7
Knockers' first visit to Hawkenbury Recreation Ground saw them take on Northdowns CC on a scorcher of a day. Ed Springett shone with both bat and ball, Freddie Young bowled beautifully and Tommy Dove continued his path into Knockers folklore.
Lando covered JT's absence at the toss, duly lost it and was asked to bat in a timed game. Ed Springett and Ziggy went out and started well on a wicket that looked like it might hide a few demons but it was really only later when Freddie got going that it came into play. Springett went on to boss the innings with only exemplary efforts in the field stopping him running up a third ton for Knockers. He holed out to a nonchalant one-handed catch at long-on having partnered well with a watchful Ziggy, classy Akhil and attacking Tommy.
Duke shaped up well but briefly and Matt and JT saw us through to a declaration on 204-5. A great selection of cakes were gobbled up as both sides chatted about the heat and England's 6-1 win.
Tommy Dove, now immortalized in a song, mixed it up, bowling an NCC opener with a beauty before ceding to a chance-enducing Gez who then gave way to Akhil who enjoyed a fine debut, grabbing his first scalp for the club. All the while Freddie was sending down grenades at the other end, causing no end of troubles to both the batsmen and his own team with five chances going begging to the one taken. His twelve over stint was a joy to watch.
Duke signed off for his summer with a nick to Snellers with the gloves. Matt was dynamism itself in the field. Springett sent down three maidens to help calm Knockers' nerves when Northdowns looked dead set at 124-2 with seventeen to play. He had earlier taken a catch off Freddie and bagged two of his own to turn the game around. Ziggy's increasingly impressive leggies continued the work with Lando somehow inducing a stumping to stave off another TFC award in the final over with the game ending in a draw.
The pub saw us celebrate Duke's summer, fail to convince Matt and Akhil that touring would be good for their health and desire to not wake up to male genitalia at 4am and unearth further tales of nightclub Freddie. Ah, Knockers.
