Match Report

Knockers put in a handy team performance to overcome a decent Pembury outfit with Ted Marsh's leadership getting the best out of ten men. Matt Landers set us off with the bat, aided well by Josh Wade and completed by Callum McCulloch's blast. Seb Horner and David Bowen put in the hard yards with the ball before Luke Andrew brought the win home.

Knockers batted first with Ted and Matt looking to set a jaunty pace. Captain Marsh hit sixteen off the third over, enjoying a rare loose spell from their opener, Shear. Matt supported well and pushed on once Ted was given LBW. Josh joined him just as Aussie, Gladwin, was getting into his stride getting the ball to grip on a wicket that didn't quite hold the demons it suggested.

A hundred partnership ensued, Matt's massive straight six a reward for a slow search for his middle while Josh ticked along nicely. A 'Yes, no, wait (fall over), yes! Okay no then.' moment nearly stopped Matt getting his maiden Knockers fifty but he went on to top score before holing out. Ziggy stomped back to the pavilion soon after cursing a full toss.

With nine overs of 35 to go and a slightly dicey 164 on the board Callum strolled out and hit a half century off around 20 balls. A neighbouring garden was peppered with sixes in the kind of knock that turns a game. After Josh was caught, Neil Dave supported well with a lovely pull shot adding to McCulloch's unforgiving innings leaving Knockers at 238-4 at tea.

46 years of experience went into tea and it was well received. Josh Wade was a particular fan, tea-ing with aplomb, enjoying pasties, scones and pizzza.

Seb and Callum opened. Horner pinned down one end while McCulloch asked questions but got a few replies as Mobbs, who hit the ball hard and clean (as Ziggy's knee can testify) and Gladwin did their best to make the chase look simple. Neil had a go before giving way to Marsh while Ziggy took over from Horner's great spell. The skipper finally split the openers up with Seb Horner taking a sweet catch at deep square leg. Ziggy did for his partner with Luke Andrews' hands beginning his influence on the afternoon. Zig bowled through bagging his second in his last over.

Lando's knack of taking wickets this summer continued with an LBW in his first over that saw the umpire rapidly replaced and Ted Marsh pouching his second while he helped the scoreboard tick over. Gez's leggies produced chances but no wickets. And so unto Luke's spell that followed Josh chipping in with a catch to Neil to remove their skipper. Andrews hit the off stump with a beauty and then split the stumps again to put any fears of a late chase to bed. Returning overs from Horner and Dave supported well and last ball, Luke took a smart caught and bowled having switched from medium to leg spin. Everyone in Ted's car went home smiling and the whole team chipped in, especially during a tight middle overs spell. The Whitstable Bay went down a treat in the late evening sun as Knockers savoured a good afternoon.
