Match Report

The Knockers CC nine game unbeaten streak came to a disappointing end on Sunday with defeat at Staplehurst. Knockers won the toss and decided to bowl first. Lynden Spencer-Allen took a wicket in his second over trapping the Staplehurst opener plum LBW but unfortunately for Knockers they struggled to maintain this momentum. Edward Irwin was brought on to bowl and soon clean bowled the other Staplehurst opener having been fired up by over-throws and flying edges. With Staplehurst at 46-2 Knockers looked to be in a good position but Noblet and Breed put on over 100 for the third wicket to swing the game back in to Staplehurst’s favour. Despite good spells from Jariwalla and Paul Seldon, Knockers could not make the breakthrough. Lynden Spencer-Allen was brought back on and got the wicket of Breed (46) caught in the covers before the return of Edward Irwin saw Noblet (97) also removed when a short ball was too quick for him and Martin Thomas sprinted in to take an alert catch. Staplehurst looked good at 156-3 but Oli Boreham picked up a wicket LBW before Irwin and Darry quickly took out the Staplehurst middle order leading to a declaration on 192-9.

Their recent run of form meant Knockers were feeling confident but when Boreham was bowled second ball things were not looking so comfortable. Stuart Seldon followed soon after and the stuttering start got worse when Charlie Irwin was also dismissed. James Rawlins looked in good form and a glorious cover drive looked to be the start of the Knockers fight back. However, Knockers wickets continued to tumble at a steady rate and only Paul Seldon and Paul Schofield managed to occupy the crease for a decent length of time. Schofield watched from the non-strikers end as wickets fell with alarming regularity and in the end it was left to Schofield and Andy Darry to try and save the game but having blocked out for 8 overs Darry was trapped LBW with just 24 balls left. It was a disappointing end to one of the most successful Knockers seasons in recent history.

Thanks to all those involved in making this season such a success.

Firstly Keith Miller deserves a great deal of credit for arranging all of the fixtures and ensuring that once again the Season was a smooth running success.
Thanks to Andy Darry who once again did a fantastic job as Club Captain.
Every single person who played also deserves much of the credit because without people giving their time and commitment it simply would not be possible.
Lynden Spencer-Allen also deserves a lot of credit for the work he is put in to the website.
Thanks to those who also did a fantastic job organising the successful tour to Peterborough

Congratulations to everyone involved on a great season.
