Match Report

Knockers stayed ahead throughout under Akhil’s guidance in this 25 over game. Jai and Jay set us up well in a productive opening partnership after which Jonah and Hector put the chase beyond Locksbottom as everyone contributed.

Akhil opted to bat and Jai and Jay began with authority, having to work the ball well to beat a slow outfield. The pair put on 75 with good running and well timed drives until Jai was bowled and handed over to his father, Vinit.

Jay decided to accelerate and it was going well until he swiped one to long leg for an assured catch. Mitch didn’t get going, Josh did until another good catch cut him short and Luke began with explosive intent until another fine piece of Locksbottom fielding saw a hard drive to mid on snaffled. Vinit meanwhile was playing the anchor role well.

Neil was sold short early on for a run out and it took Harry to settle the ship as Vinit was beaten. Jonah cracked a fine boundary and was then bowled, Akhil was at his breezy best until he was caught and Hector was caught in two minds last ball as Knockers went from 83/2 off thirteen to a more sedate 129 all out.

It seemed to be a score that gave hope to both sides until Jonah clean bowled two with his pace and Hector turned the screws to pick up a brace himself later on. By the time a straight one from Luke got through the gate and Hector, backed by Jai’s LBW appeal with the gloves and then Jay’s safe hands, Locksbottom were 18/5 off eight.

Josh bowled a tidy spell, Neil got one through as reward for a great few overs having had an LBW denied by a no-ball. John mixed it up and then Akhil brought himself on as Locksbottom’s seventh wicket partnership got going after Harry was well backed by Jay’s hands once more. The home side ran out out of overs despite Jonah’s figures being doubled by a last over foray as Knockers won by 26 runs.

Everyone then scooched off to watch the Euro final, alas no Akhers to choose the right man for the right moment there…
