Sidcup
216-6
Knockers
69-9
Sidcup took full advantage of a cracking, if incomplete, Knockers line-up that didn’t quite take the game on properly in this convincing loss. Jonah’s opening spell with the ball and Bleasey’s lone effort with the bat highlighted what could have been, but despite a good start consistent application proved elusive alas.
Captain Young and his opposite number discussed possible formats as rain clouds loomed. Agreeing to bowl first, Knockers started with Jonah and Bleasey and both let know that Sidcup weren’t in for a Sunday stroll. Jonah removed a very tidy ex-county nearly man in Rolls, who left one that jagged on. The expected rain came and Knockers investigated the bar as Matt told tales of drum and bass glory days and Jonah rinsed a memory game.
The weather cleared up. Jonah continued at his intimidating best while Bleasey wasn’t getting the rewards his testing pace asked for. Munday bowled the remaining opener, Ellis, when a beauty of a slower ball was followed by the old full and straight.
First change brought Neil and Scott on. Neil nailed the wicket to wicket stuff, bowling Saxenna. Scott was all over the shop but did get a handy looking Jaywendena to chop on before James took over. JJ has got variety but that variety includes an increasingly emerging beauty that moves away which proved the downfall of Ruddy.
A direct hit run out from Scott did for Lappin and Knockers had a grip on the game with Sidcup on 106-6 from 20 overs. That grip relaxed considerably as Singh and Hitch plundered 110 between them from the last ten overs. JT and Will B had a crack before Freddie ditched the gloves a little too late to get matters back in hand with Sidcup finishing on 216.
Knockers’ strength had been sitting with its batting however, so things still felt in reasonable order. The sun was even attempting to pop its head out. All but Bleasey, who must think those tales of Knockers’ Sunday prowess are mere fantasy, chose to not apply themselves as swing after swing nestled gently into grateful Sidcupian hands.
Neil briefly gave us something alluding to a partnership but asides from Will’s 48, the other nine accumulated 14 runs, which, with at least five people averaging aver thirty for the summer, is quite the achievement. We owe Will a performance one day.
Not our finest hour but not something that should diminish too much from another fine summer of Knockers fun with good people. A spot of rain makes the sunny days all the sweeter after all.
