Match Report
The return of 2 Knockers players from places afar was one of the highlights of the day. James Rawlins, back from Dubai, tried to recoup his standing within the team whilst Phil Woollacott returned to captain the side on his return from Hampshire for the weekend.
Winning the toss, Phil elected to bat on a warm, sunny day. Stuart Seldon and Lynden Spencer-Allen got stuck into batting and worked their way to a partnership of 111 when a careless shot cost Lynden his wicket for 62. Ed Irwin stepped in to the fray and in his unselfish(?) innings of 12 played some nice shots. Boreham played a cavalier innings with some filthy shots for his 32 before being bowled for what everyone was there to see - Rawlins bat. Whilst this was going on Stuart was still accumulating and reached his century with only enough time for James to manage not out before the declaration was necessary when Stuart was finally out. Knockers finished on 221-3 dec.
As ever tea was enjoyed and the reluctant Knockers took to the field with a hard task ahead. It was to prove to be even harder than you would imagine as only two wickets fell. The first to the erratic Ben Rumary, caught by Boreham at point and the other a Paul Seldon caught and bowled. A total of nine bowlers were used as the game subsided into a draw. The weather too subsided unleashing a torrential downpour on the ground for about half an hour. This resulted in bowling becoming very difficult and mixed with the impossibly low sun which meant that all the bowling had to be done from one end the game slipped from a result into the miserable draw.
Everyone was in a good mood after the game as the jugs flowed freely. The fines committee had unprecedented success returning £45
