Match Report

Knockers CC travelled to the picturesque Neville for their first game of the season. Wells won the toss and chose to bat on a good looking track. Wells made a slow start, their progress hindered when Paul Seldon bowled Harry Florry. Roger Kerrison was beginning to look settled but his innings was brought to an abrupt end when Edward Irwin knocked his ball on middle stump out of the ground. Hammond (37) and Williams (76 n.o.) steadied the ship with a faultless display of shot selection and good running. Tim Shaw got a well deserved wicket when he eventually trapped Hammond LBW. Wells Captain Elliott Hughes (30 n.o) partnered Hammond to a declaration on 175 for 3.

In reply, Knockers were given a solid start by Paul Styles (33) and Stuart Seldon (45). These foundations were built on by a Paul Seldon (32) and Martin Thomas (17) and at 145 for 4 Knockers looked well placed for victory. However, Wells brought back Endacott who took a few quick wickets and stemmed the flow of runs. A valiant effort by Guthrie Miller (24 n.o.) saw Knockers needing 3 off the last ball to win but Wells held the nerve to earn a draw with Knockers finishing on 173 for 7.
