Match Report
Despite the perpetual threat of rain, Knockers and Sissinghurst managed to reach an exciting conclusion on Sunday. Knockers lost the toss and were put in to bat on a damp wicket. Stuart Seldon and Paul Styles looked to have given Knockers another solid start with a partnership of 30 but a flurry of wickets saw both openers, Guthrie Miller and Paul Seldon all back in the pavilion in quick succession. At 44-4 Knockers looked to be in trouble but a fantastic knock of 93 by Corin Spencer-Allen gave Knockers a fighting chance. Spencer-Allen's big hitting innings included seven 6's and six 4's and although contrasting in style Pete Smith's support was more valuable than his 7 runs suggested. Spencer-Allen and Smith both lost their wickets at the end trying to score quickly off the last couple of overs leaving Knockers 165-6 at tea.
Sissinghurst got off to a fine start with Wickes reaching his 50 in quick time. Paul Seldon picked up the first wicket when he found the edge and wicket-keeper Stuart Seldon took a sharp one-handed catch. As Wickes looked to accelerate he was clean bowled by Edward Irwin on 53. Sissinghurst continued to edge nearer their target but another wicket for Irwin and one for Andy Darry brought Knockers back in to contention. Eric Jarvis then produced a fine spell to pick up two vital wickets and at 100-6 the game was finely balanced. Edward Darry put the pressure on near the end with some excellent bowling but unfortunately Knockers were unable to get another wicket and an faultless partnership of 69 by N Chambers (42*) and M Burgess (25*) saw Sissinngurst reach their target with an over to spare.
