Sherborne
126-10

Match Report

In Deepest, darkest Dorset the knockers tour begun with a 38 run victory over Sherborne. Following an arduous journey and a hearty lunch in the 'skippers pub' Knockers welcomed some familiar faces, Woollacott and Druce-Smith back into the team. With some apprehension openers Smith and C Spencer-Allen entered the world or Dorset cricket.

Against a steady attack, on a slow track S-Allen and Smith (15) took the game to Sherborne. However as the shine came off the ball and the fielders dropped to the boundary scoring became restricted as a succession of knockers players struggled to come to terms with the conditions. S-Allen battled on at the other end and was robbed of his century by the ball keeping low making a vital 92. Knockers ended on 164-7.

Sherborne neaver really attempted a run chase in reply and ably supported by the usual bowling cast, Trounce produced a match winning spell of bowling (5-35) using the magical double bounce delivery to full effect.

A solid start to the tour and a welcome victory ensure the Knockers team departed for the luxurious Chine Beach hotel in a jubilant mood.
