Match Report

Knockers travelled to Sussex and batted first against Hurst Green. Once again they owed much to opener Paul Styles who remains in vintage form. He was well supported by Will Goulstone who made 23 as the pair added 74 for the second wicket. The Knockers middle order stumbled as a number of tour weary batsmen came and went quickly. However Ollie Boreham rode his luck and joined Styles in another half century partnership before the latter was sixth out with the score at 168 having made a vital 82. Boreham went on to make 56 not out enabling his side to declare at 201 for 8.

Hurst Green got off to a good start as they notched up 62 before Paul Seldon took the first wicket. The regular bowlers found it difficult to remove the stubborn Wright and it needed the introduction of spin to make further inroads. Will Goulstone took 2 for 32 and young Edward Woodhouse-Darry bowled very well on his senior debut, having Wright stumped for 64. Occasional bowlers Andy Marshall and Peter Smith took a wicket apiece at the end, but the home team found the target beyond them, reaching 154 for 7 at the close.
