Another disappointing result for Knockers as they stumbled to a losing draw against Tonbridge. On one of the hottest days of the year, Knockers were invited to field and got off to a good start when both Irwin and Seldon struck early wickets. However a large partnership between C Jenner and J Simmons followed as Tonbridge progressed to 163-4. From there Knockers were really hanging on for the declaration, and it duly came when a smart piece of fielding from Andy Darry yielded a run out.
An apparently generous declaration left Knockers in a confident mood at tea, and they were given a good start when Oli Boreham struck a couple of early boundaries, although he was removed attempting another big hit. This just brought Charlie Irwin to the crease, and in the intense heat he took the fight to the Tonbridge bowlers, smashing fours to all parts of the ground while batting partner Stuart Seldon dropped anchor at the other end. At 106-1, a Knockers victory looked very much on the cards but Seldon (26) was caught after mishitting a leg side shot. Irwin continued though and found another Seldon to bat with, progressing to 143-3. However both batsmen were swiftly removed, with Irwin caught on the boundary. From there a familiar Knockers struggle ensued with Marshall (15) and E Irwin (12) helping knockers through to another losing draw, negotiated this time by Andy Darry and Steven Trounce.
