Match Report
A new fixture is always greeted with a certain amount of trepidation and a trip to East Sussex was no exception for the Knockers. Armed with the knowledge that the ground was situated by a Chinese pub (?!) curiosity turned to pleasure upon arrival when it was seen that the boundary on one side of the ground made Ide Hill look like a Continental land mass. This short boundary also brought out a hitherto unknown talent in the shape of Smith's uncanny ability to find a cricket ball in thick hedge whilst all around him searched aimlessly.
Skipper for the day (the toss anyway) Ben Rumary chose to field and with debutant Si Bishop in the final XI prospects looked good. Good opening spells by Corin and Ben had the batsmen on the back foot however it was not until the introduction of Ed Irwin that things got going, spectacularly aided by the All Diving, all tumbling Trounce who caught a steepler to end the hard hitting Baldocks innings. Hurst ended up on 176 for 9 with 4 wickets for Rumary and top catches for Woody and Corin.
In reply Howe departed early not offering a shot to either of the balls he faced, closely followed by Smith. Solid 'TFCs' for both of them. Boreham (50) and Corin (34) rescued the situation putting on 70 setting up what should have been a easy victory. However poor shot selection caused a collapse and it was left to the combined efforts of Seldon, Bishop and Woody to see us home, victorious by 2 wickets.
Special mention must be made of Trouncey who held up an end against the opposing quick to enable Woody to score off the friendly bowling at the other end.
Notable events after the game included Guy betting he would bring a girl to the next weeks game and promptly offering a drunken friend of Ed's £100 pounds to accompany him. How could a girl turn that down? She Did. Will he win the bet? Find out next week.
