Match Report

Blue skies and sunshine greeted the Knockers as they arrived at Tonbridge. Having lost the toss the knockers primed themselves for their innings with a team talk quoting a fifth century Chinese philosopher. The motivation proved effective as Oli Boreham and Stuart Seldon raced to a fifty partnership in 6 overs. After his explosive start Boreham finally succumbed getting caught at gully for 37. Seldon went on to complete his 50 accompanied by an agricultural innings from Charlie Irwin. Seldon's wicket was captured as a ball grew big on him catching the top edge leaving the wicket keeper with a simple catch. Irwin (10) followed soon after leaving a bedraggled set of stumps behind him. With the score on 129-3 captain Edward Irwin and Corin Spencer-Allen were looking to cement Knockers' advantage. Spencer-Allen scored freely, thumbing through the text book of strokes as he blistered his way to 61 not out. Debutant Chris Childs and Paul Seldon gave good support as Knockers declared on 214-5.

Knockers gave Tonbridge a fiery welcome but octogenarian David Hamilton was unfazed as Tonbridge moved to 40 without loss. Having failed to break the deadlock Lynden Spencer-Allen, Paul Seldon and Ed Irwin went back to the field hungrily anticipating the spin twins. Andy Darry and Nick Jariwalla tore through the Tonbridge line up both creating hat-trick situations. With 10 overs to spare Jariwalla 3-36 and and a slimline Darry 7-46 brought proceedings to a close. With the help of some good catching from both Seldon brothers and Boreham.

A satisfying win that should drive Knockers into a rich vein of form.
