Match Report
A young Knockers side failed to live up to its potential in the annual clash against the Vine. Winning the toss and choosing to field on a damp wicket Knockers made early inroads, Lynden Spencer Allen taking a wicket in the first over. The Vine’s overseas player, Andrew Lamb, took the fight to the Knockers and hit a quick fire 97 before being deceived by debutante Chilcott’s delivery and well caught by Paul Seldon. A good spell of bowling by Paul Seldon without reward enabled Knockers to regain some lost ground towards the end of the innings along with Chillcott finding his rhythm to take 3 wickets. Dan Turner returned to bowl at the death with some challenging deliveries alongside Spencer-Allen who finished with 3 wickets. The Vine made 201-8 off their 40 overs, a challenging but gettable target.
The Knockers reply started on track with Paul Seldon and Chillcott impressing. A slowing wicket started to give difficulty in maintaining the required run rate and wickets started to fall. Stuart Seldon joined his brother at the crease and looked to build a good partnership before Paul was bowled for 25. Stuart continued to bat well but was largely unaided by numerous partners, Oli Boreham unable to repeat the feat of last week. A string of scores below 10 for number 4 onwards did not prove the backbone to a winning run chase and when Seldon departed for 42 some big hitting proved elusive with some challenging bowling from Lamb and Richardson on a spinning wicket. Knockers were all out for 149 – Still you can’t win every year!
