Match Report

A disappointing result for Knockers, who looked on course to win this game but ran out of batting while nearing the target. Knockers fielding performance was good, restricting Tonbridge to 198 and grinding out seven wickets before the declaration came. Will Goulstone (1-37) struck early with an inswinging delivery, while Andy Darry (2-35) and Ken Cowan (1-27) bowled economically in their spells, keeping the scoring rate down. Joe Druce-Smith (2-27) was the other wicket taker with some variable deliveries.

Knockers reply started poorly, with S Seldon being removed for a duck but Andy Cole took the fight to Tonbridge with a quickfire 12. Will Goulstone and Paul Seldon then put on the biggest partnership of the innings before Goulstone (36) was caught attempting to hit over the top. However the good work continued with debutant Druce-Smith batting well for 19 and Knockers looked well placed on 133-3. Druce-Smith's dismissal brought uncle Peter Smith to the crease and with his experience good progress was made with Seldon and with 10 overs to go only 41 runs were required with six wickets in hand and victory looked assured. However, Smith was dismissed inexplicably stumped after a loud LBW shout was turned down. The remaining Knockers batting was something of a procession as Seldon (76) followed shortly after and last man A Darry was caught at the wicket for a 27 run win to Tonbridge.
