Knockers
192-8
Ide Hill
131-10
A miserable cold Sunday could only be livened up in two ways and it just so happened that the Knockers were to be doing both those things - yes you guessed it a trip to everyone's favourite pub, The Star, and a game against Ide Hill. Neither disappointed and it was to prove to be an eventful day resulting in the highest recorded fines total for the current Knockers team. So how?
After a brief luncheon at the Star to get everyone's blood pumping (Steve's in particular) the Knockers, ably led by Charlie Irwin, arrived at Ide Hill ready for the fight. Electing to bat on winning the toss the first few overs saw little of the explosive batting of the week before. Debutant Will Goulstone went early for 1 whilst Charlie and Oli Boreham struggled to put ball to bat. They eventually found some form but not for long as they both fell in the 20s. Stuart Seldon continued in the vain of the week before amassing 49 before driving upwardly to be caught attempting the second run. (another jug please Stuart!) Enter Paul Schofield who with penetration of the field and a solid style set about anchoring the knockers tail, reaching his maiden Knockers 50 to bring about the Knockers declaration at 192-8.
No fewer than 10 bowlers were to be used in the Knockers fielding line up. Proceedings started with Lynden Spencer-Allen who took the second wicket of the day but only after strike bowler Steven Trounce had scooped his first of two. His dominating bowling style taking its toll on the Ide Hill line up before being retracted from the Knockers line up for fear of taking his 150th wicket for the club. It was left to one wicket for Darry, Irwin!, Seldon, Goulstone and Miller apiece and two run outs from the L Sp-Allen/Boreham combination to bring the Ide Hill innings to a tumbling close. Highlights being a brilliant Trounce catch at short fine leg off Irwin and the return of Keith Miller to the side as well as the amazing spin of Will Goulstone. And we can't forget some of those balls from Darry which "ended up in Sussex" as he himself said. Another game to remember.
Roll on the anniversary celebrations next week when hopefully the weather will be a bit more conducive to the game.
