Match Report

The annual fixture against Orbilians(Sevenoaks School Old Boys) normally turns out a few surprises. The surprise this year was the turn out of Knockers past player Ian Hitchcock finally persuaded onto the field again.

Darry, having lost the toss again, anounced we were fielding. After 20 minutes on the field Pete Smith finally arrived and so we were up to 11. The scoring started quickly reaching 23 off just 3 overs before P Seldon(4-2-14) struck with the first wicket. Cowan(4-2-12) then came on and displayed a great spell of bowling tying down the scoring rate greatly. However much of the hard work was undone in Darry's first over(4-6-4-0-6-6 ) of 26. After regaining some composure though Darry managed to continue to bowl his 4 overs with minimal extra damage also taking 2 wickets(4-2-35). Steve Trounce then came on with little effect and ended bowling with Potting(!) who returned a tidy spell of bowling(2-1-10). After their alloted 20 overs the score stood at 116-9.

The Knockers reply started briskly reaching 24 off 3 overs with Styles and Botting leading the way. Botting was then well caught at extra cover having middled the ball. Piper was the next to make inroads into the total making 25 prior to being run out judged by our very own Steve Trounce! Sp-Allen made little impression and looked set to be adding another 0 to his effort on Sunday when he drove his first ball to Mid on scrambling a run having been dropped only to hit the next ball to mid off. Paul Seldon, Oli Boreham, Hitchcock and Smith all added to the total but in the end their total proved to large to get. This was particularly disappointing having given them the chance to salvage some runs and make a game of it for them to try the utmost to win the game.

So another loss for Knockers. Things can, and will, only get better from here.
