Match Report

A warm but cloudy day awaited the travelling Knockers as they ventured to Chislehurst to face Chelsfield Exiles, with an inspection of the wicket it was decided that to bat first would be an opportunity too good to miss. G.Miller (el Capitain) did the business in the middle and returned with the news that Knockers were to bat.
S.Seldon and P.Styles approached the crease and set about their business, the bowling was met with some trepidation as little was known of Chelsfield Exiles team. This trepidation was warranted when P.Styles was bowled for 4, bringing in G.Miller who found himself in fine fettle. G.Miller started as he left off last week with some positive stroke play and with minimum running was pushing the score along nicely, with S.Seldon being caught for 18 it teamed G.Miller with A.Marshall hot off his impressive return against Orbillians.
The two settled down and Miller continued to bat strongly while Marshall guarded his wicket with great technique and after 34 balls was finally removed for a solid 12.
Next up was O.Boreham, using a heavier bat than would normally suit his flamboyant style, he was found a little flat footed after 11 runs and the umpire’s finger rose!
Enter C Spencer-Allen, his cavalier approach complemented Miller’s bullish approach to the bowling attack quickly accelerating his own score while Miller got his 50, unfortunately that would be G.Millers last runs of the day and brought to the crease L Spencer-Allen reuniting another of Knockers family partnerships.
C.Spencer-Allen went on to notch up a quick 50 before being dismissed, while L.Spencer-Allen battled on and held up the battling tail but without much more addition and Knockers were all dismissed for 204 a respectable and certainly defendable score.
After a heavy tea Knockers took to the field L.Spencer-Allen and D.Turner opened the bowling and the results were quickly visible with Spencer-Allen taking the first wicket after 2 balls and Turner following up shortly afterwards with the second with a little help from O.Borehams safe hands.
Chelsfield seemed to have no reply to the pace of L.Spencer-Allen and D.Turner but bravely got something on each delivery defending their wickets with some strong defence. Having Bowled 11 overs between them it was time for a change, K.Cowan and A.Darry entered the attack with some stunning results, the pick of the bowlers producing figures of 4 for 31 off 7 and 3 for 2 off 3 respectively, leaving P.Styles and B.Rumary to mop up the tail, this was eventually achieved although B.Rumary’s spell was somewhat marred by two warnings for dangerous play.
A Knockers win with overs to spare Chelsfield Exiles only amassing 91, 23 coming from extras, an impressive performance and a great way to reunite some old school Knockers.
With the team in fine form next Sunday and the Smith & Cobb match can’t come quick enough!!
