Match Report

Round 1 of the Clark Trophy presented an intriguing challenge for Knockers, a mid week evening fixture with Farningham.
After the closely fought run chase at Sissinghurst went against Knockers they were looking to rekindle winning ways and to come out triumphant.
For the first time this year the BBC weather department finally got a forecast correct and it duly rained all day on Thursday as well as in patches Wednesday night, to all concerned the game looked to be cancelled but no phone call was forthcoming. Surprisingly Knockers arrived at Farningham to a team prepared to play, much to the dismay of Miller who felt the weather was far to inclement for Cricket.
Knockers WON!! (the toss) and elected to bowl feeling that they might be better suited to a run chase than a defence and that with the conditions as they were no one was really going to enjoy a bat and may find it hard to deal with the some what damp surroundings!

D.Turner opened the bowling for Knockers in the limited 12 over match zipping the ball through and warming the palms of stand in keeper G.Miller and took the first wicket of the season for Knockers, quickly followed by a wicket from G.Scandling, Spirits were high and Knockers were looking for more, the light was dim and the ground slick when A.Kerrison came into the attack with immediate effect taking all his three wickets in his first over!! Knockers could see the tail wagging and with B.Rumary coming on at the other end another wicket fell. Following that Wicket, came a bizarre turn of events, the seventh wicket was a runout with some inspired Jonty style fielding from G.Miller from the bowling of B.Rumary, at that point came in the last Farningham wicket, who when informed there was one ball left and he wasn’t facing it seemed to have a some issues with that scenario, the last ball was bowled by B.Rumary and having missed the shot the Farningham batsmen took off for a run D.Turner fired in the ball from fine leg missing the stumps as it shot past the bowler it crashed into the bowlers end stumps thus relieving the last batsmen of his duties, so having not faced a ball the last man for Farningham was condemned to a run out as well ( Not Happy).
The Light failed quickly over the change and Knockers began the chase in dim light, a tentative yet positive start from G.Miller and G.Smith. unfortunately G.Smith was dismissed more by the light and pitch than the delivery and in came A.Kerrison.
With an Aggressive approach A.Kerrison almost got G.Miller running between the wickets as the pair ploughed on in the failing light. A.Kerrison was next to go, batting well out of his crease and wafting at a ball like a conductor. G.Miller remained, joined by D.Turner runs had to come thick and fast.
D.Turner sadly failed to score and it left T.Sullivan and G.Miller to battle in vain and with the last stroke of the game T.Sullivan got off the mark but alas Knockers were a few runs short. A close fought affair and with a full complement of men in the field Knockers would surely have prevailed, Knockers were beaten but not down! Bring on Linton Park!!!!
