Match Report

A wet and overcast Sunday was never going to herald a great day of cricket. It was fortune that as much cricket that took place happened even. Having got to the Pub near the ground for a bite to eat before hand the signs were not good when it was discovered that their kitchens had been condemned 2 years previously. And so it was onto the ground after a liquid lunch. Captain for the day Lynden Spencer-Allen lost the toss and was put into bat. With most of the side showing a slight reticence to bat following the festivities of Saturday night, it was left to Corin and Lynden Sp-Allen to lead the way. They put on an opening partnership of around 90 before Lynden(39) was out shortly followed by Corin(49). This brought to the crease Stuart Seldon and Pete Smith. The rain started to fall heavily around 4pm and an early tea was taken. The rain had eased during the break and the batsmen went out to score quickly on a wet wicket taking the total score to about 150 with Pete Smith making 38 not out on his debut batting appearance for this season and Stuart Seldon into double figures.

It was decided that due to the ever darkening conditions and the incessant rain Rumwood would have the same number of overs at 29 to Knockers to make the game fair. Ben Rumary and Nick Jariwalla opened the bowling in the wet. Ben's bowling was controlled(almost all the time) and pacy causing a few problems, and Nick's was sometimes challenging. Rumary took a wicket before being replaced by Ed Irwin whose erratic pace limited the batsmans scoring but never looked like challenging the batsmens wickets. Andy Darry also bolwed in his diligent style. This is where the memory starts to fade. Guthrie Miller may have bowled. The game was eventually abandoned when a torrential down pour occured leaving everyone suitably soaked with the game looking evenly poised for a close finish.
