Knockers Triumph – Cobb denied
Tom Cobb with a stylish 99 n/o guided the Knockers to a fine victory but was left, excruciatingly, one short of a maiden ton. With the scores level and Cobb on 98, only a boundary would suffice – a powerful cut was parried by a fielder and agonisingly the ball was pulled up inches from the boundary.
Earlier in the match a fine 100 n/o by S. Pollard and 62 n/o by A Methurst in the face of distinctly lively bowling from Dan Turner (2/29) and the guile of Guthrie Miller set the visitors a fairly testing target of 209. However, Cobb, in alliance with Paul Styles (34) and Geoff Smith (35) chased down the total in the Ashdown Forest gloom with two overs to spare and its final bittersweet denouement.
