KNOCKERS 234-7 BEAT IDE HILL 83/ALL OUT
Tom Cobb scored a superb maiden century (107) and powered the Knockers to an emphatic victory. Cobb driving and pulling freely punished the bowling to reach his richly deserved landmark. Geoff Smith scored 30 and Ronan took 3/30.
There were a number of other contributions of variable quality the enigmatic Ollie B started to deconstruct the bowling until foolishly trying to hit the ball over the head of the tallest player on the pitch standing on top of the hill, Guy did a fine Viv Richards impression, Scot showed good form hitting a maiden six into the fields, Tom managed to scoop a catch to the keeper of the middle of the bat, LSA forgot the boundary is only about 15 yards away and was run out with a direct hit, Cookie began to show form just before the declaration.
The home side needed to make a bright start to challenge a testing target but, instead, wickets fell in regular and quick succession. The pacy Ben Cobb made the initial inroads (2-9) then the spinners took over to close out the match, Guthrie Miller (3-8), Ted Darry (2-32), Guy Howe (2-2) and Geoff Smith (1-7). J Sayers made a defiant 26.
Of real note is that Guthrie has now taken 7 for 16 in the last 3 matches, words are insufficient to describe the quality of his bowling, Guy, making a pitch for the all-rounders spot, bowled a fine googly to wrap up the match but perhaps the batsman threw his wicket seeing the huge pressure [NOT] being applied by Geoff at the other end - who took his first wicket since the late 1980s.
Man of the match TC surely must be challenging for the number 1 spot
