MITCHAM MAVERICKS 152 A/O DREW WITH KNOCKERS 138/8
In a tight match, we looked like we had restricted the Mavericks to an achievable score. Tight bowling from the Cobb brothers, Ben 2/18 (also captain for the day) and Tom 1-32 well supported by Ed Darry 3/30 and Ken Cowans 2/49 shackled the home team. Tom Watts took 2 good stumpings. Guido unfortunately missed out on his hat-trick carried over from Ide Hill – a big mistake to remove the man from the deep square leg boundary - he was always going to needed. He did clean up the jack - eventually. Ed also missed out on a hat-trick. Some amusing fielding was thrown by Steve Cawdron as well as a classy over. S McMulley scored 80 for the oppo.
The batting made a solid start with Geoff Smith (63) and Paul Styles (34). Paul gave the slip cordon plenty of catching practice as well enraging their fast bowler before finally keeping the ball on the ground. However, the wickets started to fall regularly as the required run rate mounted. S Dubha took 6/40. In the end, the draw was just about right between the two evenly matched sides.
