Match Report

10 man Knockers put in a passive batting display after some good work in the field to capitulate against a decent Mavericks outfit. The conditions where excellent and although the wicket held a bit of bounce and plenty of dust, it played true.

Put into field first the Knockers opened with Ben Cobb (14/2/55/2) in the first of his three spells for the visitors. His first wicket was aided by a low one-handed catch by Stuart Seldon who manned the gloves excellently throughout. Ken Cowan (8/0/55/2) held the other end and helped keep the run rate low as the home side played themselves in. Cobb's figures could have been even healthier but for a sharp dropped chance in the slips.

First change saw Edward Darry (6/0/43/1) step into the fray and respond well to the remaining opener's attempt at getting on top of him by bowling the batsman after taking a couple of hits. Paul Cook (6/1/27/1) took his first wicket for the Knockers, again with a clean bowl.

Andy Darry (4/1/21/0) teased a few loose shots from his spell but none fell to hands. Debutants Seb Moltz (5/1/25/0) and John Mitchell (2/0/22/0) also stepped in but couldn't break a now settled Rana (51) and Hasham (73). Mitchell was unfortunate not to pick up a wicket in his first over when a chance at short mid on was dropped.

It took the returns of Cobb and Cowan to make further breakthroughs. Moltz took a solid catch at mid-off from the former whereas Cowan got both Rana hitting across the line with a LBW decision and ended the innings of both Hasham and the Mavericks when Cook clutched a looping shot at deep mid off. A healthy home total but with nigh-on 47 overs played there would at least be time for the Knockers to chase them down.

After a tasty tea Stuart Seldon (11) and Geoff Smith (15) set about the task at hand. The in-form Seldon looked like another untroubled high score was heading his way until he was caught behind off of a loose cut shot. Smith stuck around longer but also fell to a catch. In fact seven Knockers shared the same fate as the home side didn't turn to pace even once during the innings.

Seb Moltz (29) was the pick of the Knockers batting with a relaxed technique that promised a big score. He watched Ben Cobb (14) get bowled and was joined by Edward Darry (28) and they both looked like it could be the partnership that would make up the bulk of the Knockers' response. It was, but after a good start Moltz fell to a catch and when Paul Cook (4) followed suit the writing was on the wall. Landers (1) watched E. Darry fall and then John Mitchell (0) in quick succession. He then fell to Dalhia who with three wickets for not many runs was the pick of the Mavericks bowling.

Ken Cowan (2no) and Andy Darry (1), so often the frustration of many an opposition in trying to finish off the Knockers were asked to navigate more than 14 overs which proved too much as the visitors were left to ponder what might have been.
