The Knockers endured their first defeat of the season in a sorry manner as Holmesdale chased down an indefensible total. Dan Turner contributed more than most with the bat and Harry Ellis provided a fleeting moment of hope with the ball.
Electing to bat first the travelling side have a well founded confidence in their openers Tom Watts (11) and Stuart Seldon (9). A lively pitch did for the latter when a rising delivery skimmed Seldon's glove to carry through to the wicket-keeper. Watts soon followed to a superb over the shoulder running catch and the game slipped away rapidly thereafter.
The game began to resemble the advert for a certain well known brand of cider where a group of apple pickers are so well practiced in catching that nothing gets dropped. Nine wickets where lost to safe Holmesdale hands whose young team also fielded mercilessly well. Turner's (31) partnership with Ellis (5) was the steadiest and most fruitful for the visitors. Once Ellis was lost Turner opened up to get runs on the board and after a four and meaty six he succumbed to a caught and bowled ending the Knockers innings at 87 all out.
The Turner-Ellis partnership again provided the only other high point as their opening spell with the ball reduced Holmesdale to 8 for 2 and then 20 for 4. Turner's pressure complimented Ellis's sharp line and the latter picked up three wickets; two clean bowled and the other a great take with the gloves by Seldon. In between a mix up saw two Holmesdale men in no-mans land for an easy run out. First change saw the momentum slip away and Holmesdale's creditable performance win through.
