Match Report

The Knockers followed Tuesday's Clarke Trophy win with a victory over Shoreham. Guthrie Miller led the charge with four wickets along with Will Smith who claimed three, leaving the visitors a modest total to chase down.

The recent heatwave that was once upon a time referred to as "summer" saw the Knockers unsurprisingly put into field by the Shoreham skipper. His opposite number, Stuart Seldon, combined youth with experience as Dan Turner (4-1-15-0) opened while Will Smith (6-2-17-3) reduced Shoreham to 16-3, finding the stumps twice and Jon Boland's hands for his three scalps in a lean and mean six over spell.

Debutant Ollie Marsh's (6-1-25-1) wicket taking delivery was a peach but despite the pressure he and Lynden Spencer-Allen (5-0-18-0) put on, Shoreham began to recover. Second change saw Guthrie Miller (4-0-17-4) turn events back in the Knockers' favour. His spin made full use of the dry track as the stumps rattled regularly for the former captain.

Ken Cowan (3-0-7-1) put in three tight overs and took a further wicket to bring the end in sight aided by Boland's safe hands at point. Boland (1-0-1-0) himself got an over in but it was the last of the three new faces, Manoj Thakur (2-1-10-1) that brought an early end to matters when Scott Landers took a catch at midwicket.

Geoff Smith (4) and Landers (3) both fell before tea, out LBW and bowled respectively. Boland (36) was not slowed down by the excellent curry when play resumed and his partnership with Marsh (27) after Turner (4) was caught behind proved to be the backbone of the Knockers total.

Shoreham's Kirkbright (27-3) accounted for all three with the excellent shot selection of Boland and Marsh cut short by the bails falling. Seldon (15no) and chief wicket-taker Miller (2no) saw the visitors home as Shoreham rotated the bowling extensively. Seldon brought matters to a close with a hefty six in this well hosted match.
