Match Report
For the third game in a row the rain played a major part in proceedings, this time a premature end to a promising 30 over match. Paul Seldon continued his fine form and Kyle Maguire fell just short of a century. Geoff Smith's second half-century for the club looked to set up a great match but the skies opened up further to see matters move to the pub.
Captain Geoff Smith won the toss and sent Paul Seldon (50) and Paul Cook (0) out on an already rainy afternoon. Cook fell to an early grubber to bring Kyle Maguire (93) to the crease. P Seldon served up a dolly to mid-on but was dropped and soon followed up with his best shot of the day, a hooked six. Maguire's cheerful and cheeky batting style saw him motor away making good work of the short boundaries. P Seldon was dropped again at deep extra cover reaching his fifty and then being taken at the third time of asking as the Southborough keeper was quick-witted enough to snaffle a one-handed catch off the inside shoulder of the bat. The same bowler made short work of Stuart Seldon (4) and Scott Landers (0) out LBW and bowled respectively.
Smith (58) then feasted on the short on-side boundary in a wonderfully carefree innings as Maguire watched on at the other end. Realising an opportunity for a century was on, Maguire began to push for the strike but fell on 93 when he nicked through to a smart catch by the keeper. Smith almost saw out the innings with Lynden Spencer-Allen (4no) but was bowled to bring in Dan Turner (0) and then Harry Elliott (3no). Spencer-Allen had to duck a freakish bouncer but was otherwise untroubled. Turner played catch with the bowler first ball and Elliot saw out two of the last three balls.
Only four overs proved possible for Southborough's innings when the umpire called the players in without return.
