Knockers
204-10
Ufford Park
205-7
Thursday's brighter weather meant that the tourists enjoyed an exciting game against Ufford Park CC. Knockers batted first and Ed Irwin and Nick Jariwalla opened the batting. Irwin threw his wicket away early on leaving Jariwalla and Charlie Irwin to give Knockers a start. Despite looking fluent and timing the ball sweetly Jariwalla succumbed to a quick ball from the Ufford Park opening bowler. Knockers had lost 4 early wickets with only Charlie Irwin (36) making a significant contribution. However, Knockers' middle order was firing on all cylinders with Martin Thomas exploding into form making 71 including seven huge 6's and four 4's. The tail also wagged with Paul Seldon batting at 9 making a quick-fire 51 thanks to support from Trounce and the unerring defence of Darry.
Ufford Park began their chase needing 205 to win and looked very assured facing the opening pair of Corin Spencer-Allen and Paul Seldon. Their left-handed opening batsmen J. Feetham looked rock solid and Knockers knew he was a threat. Ufford's other opener A. Wheal was struggling to score but managed to add to Knockers' frustration with stubborn defence. Lynden Spencer-Allen eventually made the break through removing Wheal but unfortunately this didn't cause the wheels to fall off and Ufford began to score freely due to both their own good batting but also numerous loose deliveries. The skipper Darry rang the bowling changes but neither Ed Irwin, Jariwalla nor Darry could find a wicket. Eventually, having tried all of his options the skipper returned to his opening bowlers and CSA produced a jaffa to clean bowl Feetham on 94. Ufford Park though were still well positioned at 120-2. Spurred on by the breakthrough a tired and hungover looking Knockers team sprung into life. The Ufford Park wickets began to fall with regularity. Darry caught a steepler off the bowling of LSA at mid-off managing ignore the cries of 'Oh shit!' from the slip cordon (Guilty party shall remain nameless). Jariwalla took a sharp catch to give E Irwin some reward and when Irwin junior took a catch off the bowling of Seldon Ufford Park suddenly looked like they may wobble. With two overs left Ufford were 195 for 6 (10 short of victory) and their was a glimmer of hope for Knockers. The pressure was on Seldon and LSA but Seldon was bowling well and took what could be a vital wicket with the first ball of the penultimate over. However, Seldon looking fatigued bowled a couple of wides which marred what had been a master class of swing bowling. LSA still had the chance to save the day but he too got the jitters and a wide in the middle of what was otherwise a tight last over meant Ufford Park bypassed the Knockers total with two balls to spare to win by 3 wickets.
E Irwin
Andy Darry and Paul Seldon had record 9th wicket partnership of 71
