Match Report

In a superbly exciting and hard fought match at the lovely Eridge ground, Knockers lost in the last over. In an extremely tense finale, Eridge’s last pair scored a nerve wracking 20 to win. At the start of the afternoon, Tom Watts (57), playing a fine captain’s innings, and Stuart Seldon (26) got Knockers off to a fluent start scoring 80 for the first wicket. Then six more wickets fell for less than 20 in a spectacular collapse. Happily, the tail wagged with an undefeated 25 by Ed Darry and Matt Watts (16), resolutely supported by Guy Howe. This gave Knockers a low, but just about defendable, score.

Harry Elliott and Matt Watts bowled fine opening spells, without much luck. Eridge reached 70/1 and things were looking grim but then the wickets started to fall quickly with bowlers David Brigden, Ed Darry, Chris McDowell and Guthrie Miller all chipping in supported by fine out-fielding (great work Ed and David) and a spectacular runout by Alex Elliott. However, Eridge just crept home in a wonderful finish.

Champagne moment – Alex’s run-out closely followed by the ‘collapse’

It would be great to get this fixture next year!
