Knockers
161-6
Orbilians
138-8
Knockers won thanks to some big hitting from Hume, Mitchell and Turner and some good bowling from Calver and Young.
Knockers came out on top in this hotly contested twenty20 match against Orbilians. Skipper Ed Marsh won the toss and chose to bat. Stuart Seldon (21) and Alex 'The Flame' Hume (50* retired) opened up and set Knockers off at a brisk pace. Hume's knock consisted of six fours and a six including some lovely shots through the covers. Seldon was caught behind and that called for the introduction of James Mitchell (43) who played a super innings including one massive six over deep mid on. Hume retired once he reached 50 causing a mid-order collapse. Tom Sullivan (0) arrived at the crease and was unfortunately out second ball to a fine piece of bowling. In came Tom Elliot (3) who, off his first ball, was dropped and nearly ran Mitchell out. Elliot added a quick 3 before being bowled by Martin. Mitchell soon followed after being caught and Martin struck again when he bowled Howe for 8. Dougie Bourne added 1 before being stumped. The last 3 overs were faced by Dan Turner (20*) and Freddie Young (11*) who, between them hit three sixes.
Knockers strode out to the field rather quickly due to a lack of tea. Skipper Marsh (0-15) opened up in a typically pacey spell and was unfortunate not to pick up a wicket. Richard 'Tremlett' Calver (3-12) opened at the other end and in a superb spell of bowling picking up 3 wickets for just 12 runs off four overs. On came Young (2-9) for a quick two overs and soon followed by Turner (2-17). The opposition batsman could not deal with Turner's spin. He pitched one outside off stump for it to spin and hit bottom of leg. The batsman was left stunned by some outrageous bowling from Turner. Skipper Marsh kept rotating the bowlers so much so that every fielder, bar Hume the wicket keeper bowled. Tom Elliot (0-23) cam on for his first ever bowl for Knockers and was left thinking what could have been after Seldon dropped a catch off his tricky left-armers. Bourne (0-6) bowled a tight couple of overs restricting the opposition to just six runs off them. Seldon (0-11) came on after Elliot only to be hit for six and four off his first two balls. Howe (1-21) succeeded Bourne and picked up a wicket thanks to a good catch from the giant frame of Calver. Sullivan (0-15) bowled the penultimate over and Mitchell (0-9) bowled the final over.
