Match Report

We were unlucky to lose this hard fought 20 20 as Orbilians profited from the "retire at 30" rule to allow two returning batsmen to knock off the runs.

Richard Calver and Ed Darry started off superbly well for us, continuing from their fine partnership against the Buccaneers. Both swiftly reached retirements, Darry with a huge 6 and Calver with a crashing cover drive for 4. Tom Sullivan and Guy Howe kept up the momentum before Howe was unluckily removed LBW. Sullivan eventually retired to allow our new South Africans, Simon Wormald and Alain Le Roux, to crash it around to leave us on what appeared an impregnable 154-2.

However, Orbs had other ideas as Eversfield swiftly launched into Tom Elliot’s bowling, before Elliot responded with two good wickets. Dan Turner bowled superbly from the other end with only 11 runs coming off his spell. Simon Wormald also took two wickets in a very sharp two over spell. Unfortunately, we proved to be the victims of our own success as retirees Eversfield and Fletcher were able to return to the crease and with 5 needed from the last over, saw Orbs home comfortably. One to put right next year.
