Match Report
A fine win for Knockers against a competitive Old Buckenham side. Captain Stuart Seldon was "awarded" the toss and chose to bat first on a very hot day, on a true but rather lifeless wicket. Knockers were soon into their stride with Tom Watts and Seldon striking early runs and were not troubled by the relatively early loss of Watts. Cookie was staight out there in fine form playing some excellent drives off their young seam bowlers with one straight back past the bowler being a highlight. Knockers were up to 88 off 15 with the opposition then turning to spin. Cook was unfortunately bowled advancing down the track but fortunately we had a good debutant in Ollie Martyn, who we were later to find out was nephew of well known Knocker Ian Hitchcock. Martyn settled in steadily initially before opening up and with the help of some good running between the wickets put on a good partnership of 70 with Seldon. Miller then came in to successfully advance things as we approached the close, a clatter of late wickets leaving us 201-9 off our 40 overs.
In response we were pleased to have the familiar presence of Dan Turner opening up, and he produced a fine ten over spell, removing their good opener bowled round his legs and going on to take two more wickets. Rory Goodson settled into his rhythm at the other end and at drinks they were only 81 off 20 overs. Their captain played some good early shots but was well caught by Seldon at mid on off the bowling of Young. Barney Ford also settled into a fine spell at the other end and eventually the death bowling was completed by Miller and Cook, both bowling well to ensure our modest total was defended.
