Knockers
210-6
Staplehurst
196-6
Tight bowling and fine fielding in the crucial final stages by Knockers denied Staplehurst a win on Sunday.
Staplehurst ended on 196-6 in reply to Knockers' 210-6 declared on an excellent pitch where the runs came fluently all day. Mike Woodman and Richard Botting started well for Knockers and after Woodman was out for 35 Andrew Simms (48) and Tony Martin (42) put on 96 for the fourth wicket - although they were pinned down for periods against some tight slow bowling. Some timely belligerence from Phil Barnett and Ian Dunlop took the score to the declaration at 210-6.
Although Dunlop bowled opener Wibberly for one, the Staplehurst batsmen looked comfortable with Penney hitting the ball very hard. Pullen (61no) joined Penney and the score raced to 168-2. Martin struck when he bowled Penney for 73 and follow up by dismissing two more. John Farnfield bowled a tight penultimate over and Staplehurst were thwarted at the last.
