Match Report

Four Elms won the toss and elected to field first against an in form Knockers side. Their decision seemed wholly vindicated when they quickly picked up the wicket of Olli Boreham when he played on in the second over. Despite tight bowling, a confident looking Charlie Irwin and patient Stuart Seldon punished every bad ball to put on 84 for the second wicket giving Knockers a solid base on which they could build. The tide looked like it could be turning though when in the space of 8 overs Knockers lost Stuart Seldon LBW for 36 and then Charlie Irwin (41) and Guthrie Miller (10) both bowled by Naden's mystery straight ball. The middle order remained assured for once and ensured that the solid start did not go to waste. Martin Thomas uncharacteristically took 16 balls to get off the mark but then his explosive power ensured that by ball 38 he was celebrating a 50 that included four sixes. Meanwhile, Paul Seldon played very stylishly for his 40 not out taking Knockers to a very competitive total of 212-5.

Four Elms soon found themselves in trouble with a fired up Lynden Spencer-Allen taking two wickets in his third over, breaking the middle stump in the process. He continued his impressive spell to finish with 4-32. Andy Darry had an immediate impact when Paul Seldon took a safe catch in the deep off his second ball. However, Kevin Allman was keeping Four Elms in contention with his innings of 80 thanks to the steady stream of long-hops and full tosses fed to him by the charitable bowling attack. However, Corin 'four-ball' Spencer-Allen produced a great delivery that was complimented by the safe hands of Boreham taking his second catch of the game in the slips. With Allman gone, the Darry - Seldon partnership bagged another wicket, Seldon, obviously keen to earn some kudos from the boys, dived spectacularly once he had the ball safely in his hands. A rampant Darry then wasted little time in cleaning up the rest of the Four Elms batsmen, all prize wickets of people who hadn't played the game before, to finish with 4-27. Four Elms were all out for 115 giving Knockers their sixth win in seven games by 97 runs.
