Knockers CC in trophy final
Knockers Cricket Club are in the final of the David Daniel Memorial Trophy following a 26-run victory over Fort Halstead on Wednesday evening last week in a knock-out game that produced almost 300 runs.
Knockers won the toss, batted first and immediately took advantage of their good luck. Despite the loss of an early wicket, Martin, Drake and Francis hit the ball with such force that 100 was on the board well before the 14-over limit.
Martin and Francis both completed 50s with comparative ease and when the last ball of the innings was bowled they had steered Knockers to a mammoth 161 for five.
Fort Halstead set about their huge task with zest. Cole snapped up two quick wickets - but was unable to stem the flow of runs, particularly from Larkin.
The run-rate per over was good - but not good enough - and gradually the Fort slipped behind. Cole, Lock, Martin, Drake and Miller shared the wickets as their opponents slumped to 110 for eight.
Dave Chapman and Cooper continued to thrash the bowlers - but the Fort ran out of overs just 26 runs behind.
