Knockers CC win Memorial Trophy
A solid bowling performance by David Abbioott (5-11) led Knockers to 24-run victory over Sennocke at Greatness on Thursday of last week in the David Daniel Memorial Trophy final.
David Daniel, the young Sevenoaks fast bowler tragically killed in a motor accident 18 months ago, had played for all four sides in the competition - the other two being Buckhurst and Fort Halstead.
Knockers won the toss and batted first. Thanks to some fine batting by Abbott (25) and Paul Francis (24), they managed to notch up 107-6 in their allocated 14 overs.
Although this was by no means a formidable total, the wicket was proving lively and Sennocke needed to score at a rate of about eight an over for victory.
With Dick Cheeseman (19) acting as anchor at one end, Fank Tyce (21) and Peter Tupper began to build up runs with little effort. But after these two had been dismissed off the bowling of Cole the middle order batsmen collapsed before Abbott's nagging accuracy.
The trophy was presented to Knockers' captain, Maurice Leach, by David Daniel's father, who had also umpired.
